Our Promise
Chai by Kai is a disabled and care experienced led tea brand from Glasgow. Proof that beautiful, quality things can be built against the odds.
We hand blend and hand pack premium loose leaf tea, made up to order. Our pouches are kraft paper on the outside with a food safe barrier liner inside, so they are not kerbside recyclable yet. Our mailers are plain cardboard and go straight in the recycling, and we do not use plastic tape. We buy from a small number of UK importers we have chosen and can vouch for, and we ask about growing and labour conditions before we buy. We cannot claim a certification scheme yet, and we will not say we can until we do.
We're not perfect and won't pretend to be, however we're always working to do a little better for the planet.
We also believe good workplaces should be accessible to everyone. As we grow, our aim is to create the kind of flexible, accessible work that's so often hard to find for disabled people.
And we put our money where our mouth is: once a fair wage for the blending hours is covered, 30% of the profit goes to care experienced and disabled causes, backing young people building good things against the odds, the same way this brand was built. In year one that means a minimum of 100 pounds, even if we make nothing.
We say "care experienced and vulnerable people" and we mean the whole story: a third of care leavers face homelessness within two years of leaving care, and a quarter of the UK's homeless population is care experienced. Care experience, disability and homelessness aren't separate issues, they're often the same lives at different moments. That's the community this brand stands with.
